About the course
In the course we will be exploring how to use epoxy glue in unexpected ways. Epoxy glue is a perfect material for creating interesting surfaces on top of metal or on alternative materials like wood, found objects or clay, for chemically bonding materials without the need of adding any heat, to encrust and embellish a piece with for example crushed stone, sand or glitter, to cover or paint a surface with colours or patterns and to make small castings. The course will also cover how to attach metal brooch backs, chain and earring posts to alternative materials. The students will be asked to bring 3-5 small objects to the class and we will be making simple open moulds with silicone putty to make small casts in epoxy glue. The students will get to create their own brooch and pair of earrings made from epoxy glue and alternative materials as well as making material samples and experiments.
The course will cover:
Surface treatments, encrusting, colouring and embellishing with epoxy glue
How to create cold connections for mixed materials
Basic mould making and casting in silicone putty
Sculpting and creating objects in Sculpey clay
Colouring metal surfaces with enamel lacquers
How to use Epoxy glue for repairs
Who is the course for
The course is open to students of all levels, no previous knowledge of jewellery making is required and the course is open to anyone who is interested in making jewellery or miniature sculptures.
